I have been having trouble focusing in on tasks. Especially ones that I deem important and that need to get done.
Dating back to my first post about insomnia. I think the reason why I even get insomnia is because I keep work for me to do at the night. This usually is the reason why I am stressed more often than not. I am going to try and change this habit and do my work first thing in the morning.
Here are some strategies to keep a laser focus.
Scott mentions that distractions are what keep people from not focusing properly. I find it ironic that I am writing this blog while Youtube and Gmail are open. Automatically, this will slow down my work and I will lose my focus right when I click on those icons.
Other strategies that he mentions are to turn off the Internet and place a Cell phone in another room which will keep distractions at a minimum.
Another thing that I will implement is to work on fewer tasks during the day. For the most part, nothing ever goes according to plan, if it did life would be much easier. I usually plan to do about 6-7 things during the day and I am lucky if even half the tasks get done. For example, I planned on waking up at 6 in the morning, studying for 3 hours for a final. Then go for a haircut and run some errands. Too bad, I went to sleep at 4:30 am with a terrible cold and woke up at 9:30 to get my day started. Nothing ever goes according to plan and I should just focus on getting 2-3 things done, so that I do not have trouble meeting expectations and become depressed by this. Not only that, but the tasks usually take longer than I account for anyways, so I should plan on getting the most important things done.
Lastly, I multi-task! If there was one thing I needed to work on–It was this! The goal is to focus on one thing and just do it well.
I will implement these strategies starting now and will hold myself accountable by posting how I have done by next week.
